Ashley Coogan
Hola! I am a Ph.D candidate in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at Arizona State University. I consider myself an applied sociolinguist who looks to better understand language and immigration with the goal improving the human existence and promoting multicultural and multilingual understanding. I am passionate about studying identity and how our interactions with language interact with our identities - especially when held up against less flexible constructs like nation, citizenship and group membership. My specific geographical area of interest is the European Union, especially the autonomous region of Catalonia.
On top of that, I love to teach. I enjoy being there for students, sparking interest, and building their confidence in themselves. I try to encourage students to embrace the power of their own education and the opportunities that come with it, as I have been lucky enough to do in my own life.
Personally, I love languages, travelling, music, cooking, and my cat Hobie (hoe-bee).
